The Bikers Den - bikersden.com - Motorcycle Leathers, Apparel and Accessories

Greetings from The Bikers' Den,

In this October instalment of The Bikers' Den Newsletter, we would like to focus on the local motorcycling scene in Alberta, Canada. Barring the fact that riding all year round is impossible, we think that Alberta is a great place to ride. It offers the diversity of the highest Canadian mountain peaks to the flat pavement corridors that criss cross over Alberta's plains.

Alberta's major cities, Edmonton and Calgary, offer numerous bike nights throughout the summer months, giving us a place to go and something to do almost every day and night of the week. Not to be outdone, Alberta's rural community hosts the biggest motorcycle rallies in the province. Two of the biggest rallies being the annual Brotherhood Rodeo and the Big Ass Border Bash.

Alberta also has some of the greatest and most friendly motorcycle enthusiasts in North America. Almost every rider we've met through our numerous Alberta journeys, lend themselves to the local motorcycle community through participation in clubs and numerous motorcycle charity events. We invite all fellow motorcycle enthusiasts to explore what Alberta has to offer... you won't be disappointed.

As we get closer to the holiday season, The Bikers' Den is gearing up for some major sales and promotions that we will be offering throughout October, November and December. You can read the details about our current Free Fingerless Gloves Promotion in the Sales and Promotions section below.

Your Motorcycle Articles

Here is your chance to write an article for The Bikers' Den Newsletter. Send us your motorcycle related articles and if we use it in our next newsletter you will receive a $50.00 Gift Certificate valid on anything we carry. You don't have to be a professional writer and you can write about anything you want as long as it is related to motorcycles and the motorcycle community. We're looking for mechanical tips and tricks, ride destinations, product reviews, etc. Let us know how your weekend ride went or the biker rally you attended... Send your articles to
The Bikers' Den Newsletter.

Last month we asked you to write an article about how we should pass the time during the Canadian winter months while our motorcycles are safely tucked away under covers or in our garages. Dave Faber of Chetek, Wisconsin, USA is the winner of this month's Gift Certificate. Dave wrote...

Here in Wisconsin USA, we have a hard time dealing with our off season motorcycle down time. We call it PMS, (parked motorcycle syndrome). Over the years all of us have dealt with this in many different ways. I try to keep up my reaction times sharp by downhill skiing. The speed is intense, and it makes you think very quickly. Of course on weekends you have to also ski defensively!

3 years ago I restored a 1981 honda goldwing. During that winter, I spent countless hours working on the bike out in the shop. After the bike was completely done, My wife found me one night, sitting on my perfectly restored Goldwing making VROOM VROOM sounds. You know the sound, when the bike isn't even started. Well the word spread through our friends and we all say that if your wife catches you in the garage in the middle of winter, sitting on your bike, making VROOM VROOM sounds, you have a very serious case of parked motorcycle syndrome. (PMS)

There is only one cure. Strap the bike to the trailer and head for Tucson Arizona. So we did. We drove through rain and snow 1700 miles and as we arrived, they had the coldest temps in 12 years! It snowed in Tucson for god sakes! It's a bloody desert! It's supposed to be warm! We were blamed for the cold weather of course, (bringing it with us from Wisconsin) but it did warm up and enjoyed riding for 5 days in mid January. So, if the cold weather gets you down, pull the cover off the bike, and make those glorious VROOM VROOM sounds and think warm weather, curvy roads and the wind in your face! Spring is only 5 months away!
